Announcements

March 13th will be Rotary Night at the Santa Cruz Warriors. Tickets are $25.00.

Sue reminded us that applications for community grants can be obtained online and that the final deadline for submission is April 15^th.

We were also reminded of our annual fundraiser on May 6^th and our impressive line-up of ‘roasters” including Zach Friend and Jimmy Panetta among other luminaries. Tickets are $150 and all the money will be used to fund the above community grants!

Story

Today Capitola Aptos Rotary welcomed representatives from the SLV, Scotts Valley, Sunrise, Freedom and Santa Cruz Clubs, who were all in Aptos to support the students in the area speech contest. The winner will go on to Gilroy to compete further on March 22^nd. Winners today will receive $200, $100 and $50. The theme for this contest is “Be a gift to the world.”

The winner (pictured below with Doug Deaver, the contest organizer) was very impressive. She spoke on the important issue of the need for mental health services in the schools. The three competitors were: Madeline Peterson from San Lorenzo Valley , Jacquelin Boyzo from Cila High School in Watsonville and Megan Goodhue from Delta Charter School.
