Announcements and Reminders
Please note:  The online application for community grants has been posted. It is downloadable from the bottom right corner of our home page.  Please e-mail applications in by April 13th.
Rotary night at the warriors is March 2nd. Go to their website and put in Rotary Night Warriors Santa Cruz and the info will come up. Tickets are $41.
Michelle reminded us that the major fundraiser will be Friday April 13th. The committee decided it will be two-part fundraiser for our community grants and Meals on Wheels. Meetings of the fundraiser committee will be on the first and third Thursdays at 11:00. All are welcome to come.
Wednesday Feb 21st will be the Business Showcase in Aptos. The event is held here at Aptos Seascape from 4-7. We will be setting up starting at around 3:00 if you wish to help. If you have old Rotarian magazines bring them and we’ll hand them out.
Pam Goodman announced that in the month of March we have great speakers lined up. One speaker will share his experience about being in an internment camp, another will tell us about the effect of sports on society and we will be introduced to the new president of Cabrillo College. Come and bring a guest!
Sandy announced that RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) applications are due. Awardees go to Mission Springs for a 5 day leadership camp and our club pays their way.  High school sophomore and juniors are eligible. If you know of someone who could be eligible get an application from Sandy.
Win gave us an update on our Santa Cruz Homeless Services Center project. It is scheduled to take place probably on April 7th,, but it may take more than one day. All Rotary clubs will participate and our club is responsible for painting tables and benches.
UCSC Rotaract will have a fundraisers for Jacob’s Heart and Digital Nest . The date is February 24 12-4 at UCSC Arboretum. Tickets are $30.
Santa Cruz Sunrise Rotary will have their annual fundraiser Saturday April 21st 2-5 PM. It is a wine tasting at the Tannery on 1060 River St.  This program benefits the Santa Cruz al Salvador program which provides clean water and sanitation. For more info go to www.wine2water2018.eventbrite.com.
Save the date for the Watsonville Rotary Maine lobster fest. It is $100 on June 9th at 5:30 at the harvest building on the Santa Cruz county fairgrounds.
         Today was the chapter speech contest. Talented students from area high schools (Soquel and Aptos) competed for scholarships, speaking on a variety of topics, but all incorporating the Rotary 4 way test.  The third place ($50) winner was Katherine Walton,  The second place winner ($100)  was  Annie Nye and the first place winner ($200) was Jamie Walton.  Winners will compete in the area contest in April and those winners will go on to the district contest.
