Nov 30, 2023 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Service day with the Watsonville Wetlands Watch team. They recommend long pants and closed toed shoes, hat and sunscreen, and work gloves if possible. They will also bring extra gloves. Members, please bring a water bottle and be prepared for the weather. If practical, bring an extra pair of shoes that you don't mind getting a little muddy.
Two location options, depending on weather:
Plan A is to plant a hedgerow of shrubs at the Watsonville Slough Farm as part of a grassland restoration project. The meeting address is:
275 Lee Rd Watsonville CA 95076
However, the road out to this site gets very muddy after heavy rain . So if we get a lot of rain. we may need a Plan B ready to go. So Plan B will be a tree planting in the City of Watsonville. The location is a small pocket park called Hazelwood Park, address:
297 Herman Ave. Watsonville CA 95076
If it looks like it will be raining heavily we can cancel or reschedule, so please check Monday or Tuesday to confirm and get the final location.
We'll be on location 10-12, and will try to organize a lunch afterwards. |

We are working to reschedule our speakers to January 18 - we'll confirm when we know their availability.
College Lake is a naturally occurring lake located approximately 1 mile northeast of the City of Watsonville that naturally holds about 1,000 acre-feet of water. Each spring, Reclamation District #2049 drains the lake to accommodate farming by pumping the water downstream into Salsipuedes Creek. The water ultimately flows into Monterey Bay, mixing with ocean water. The College Lake Integrated Resources Management Project will develop facilities to use the lake water as an alternative to groundwater for agricultural irrigation. To do this, the project would increase the storage capacity of the lake to approximately 1,700 acre-feet. On average, the Project will supply approximately 1,800 to 2,300 acre-feet per year of water to growers in the Pajaro Valley. brian.lockwood@pvwater.org general manager Marcus Mendiola Water conservation and outreach specialist
