Keisha Frost, the Chief Executive Officer from United Way was our speaker for the day.  She is a University of Washington graduate who qualified for the 1996 Olympics! She came here in 2012 and was promoted to CEO of United Way this year.

She gave us a bit of the history of United Way. It started in Watsonville in 1941 to improve people’s quality of life. 1988 was when they began to offer after school programs (boys and girls clubs and girl scouts for instance).  They are now looking at youth success. They want to know how programs are doing that serve youth, examining  what is termed “collective impact”.

Currently they have a campaign to buy backpacks full of school supplies for a donation of $25. Next Saturday they will stuff the bus with these and deliver them to the 3200 youth who are homeless in our area. For more information on this or other United Way programs go to
